What to Take on a Road Trip

imageThis summer my family took a very, very long road trip. We drove from South Florida to Bloomington, Indiana and then back. When we went my son Benjamin was 3 and our other son Alexander was only 10 weeks old. Here is what we packed for both the boys to make our days away from home a little easier.

Benjamin (3 years)

  • Shorts and Shirts
  • Dress Shirt and Pants
  • Underwear
  • Jacket
  • Bathing Suit, Rash Guard , and Water Shoes
  • Socks and 2 Pairs of Shoes
  • Hat
  • DVD Player
  • Kid DVD’s
  • Tablet
  • Dry Erase Flash Cards with Dry Erase Markers
  • Crayons and Coloring Book
  • A Bag of All the Junk from Birthday Parties (I like to give out 1 an hour to keep the crazies at bay.) (Or Save for meal time.)
  • 4 Matchbox Cars
  • 2 mini Monster Trucks
  • 2 Books
  • Leapfrog pen and 2 Leapfrog Books

Alexander (10 weeks)

  • Onesies and Pants
  • Jacket and Socks
  • Diapers, WIpes, Rash Cream and Wet Bag (Even if cloth diapering good to put poopy clothes in.)
  • Cosleeper- Didn’t use other than for the light. Nightlight would have been better but my husband convinced me not to take one.
  • A Few Toys (Sofie the Giraffe, Wooden Teether Rattle)
  • Teething Tablets
  • Light and Heavier Blanket
  • Quilt so can lay baby down anywhere.

Other Stuff

  • Snack for everyone for 2 days
  • Drinks for everyone (Horizon milk boxes, Organic Juice boxes, Water, Reusable Cups to Fill.)
  • Cold Bag to hold Snacks
  • Sandwiches for everyone for 2 lunches (Less stopping the better.)
  • Laundry Bag (To separate dirty clothes so everything doesn’t smell.)
  • Snap and Go Stroller (compact and just pop in carseat.)
  • Baby Carriers (Moby, Baby K tan, ErgoBaby, and a Sling)
  • Sunblock and Bug Repellent
  • Packed a bag for Baby for easy clothes and diaper changes.
  • Packed a bag for Hotel as to not have to search for things like your toothbrush.
  • Medication- (Stuff for Pain, Headache, and Allergy Attacks)
  • Packed an Emergency Medical Bag- Bandages, BandAides Ect.
  • Portable breast pump, bottles, and cleaning wipes (Just in case!)
  • Extra Batteries
  • Noise Canceling Headphones
